This newest release from Houghton, celebrates the late Jack Mann’s March birthday.

Jack was the winery’s fourth generation winemaker, who produced his first vintage at the young age of 16 in 1922, as an apprentice under his father George. Jack went on to become the Senior Winemaker at Houghton between 1930-1972, when he also significantly contributed more broadly to the development of the WA wine industry. The wine therefore also commemorates and honours Jack’s contribution to the region.

The 2012 Jack Mann Cabernet Sauvignon is only the 13th release of the wine –released only in exceptional vintages.

“2012 was a great red vintage in Western Australia, particularly in the Great Southern regions, which is always encouraging and a great sign of what may be with regards to the Jack Mann Cabernet Sauvignon”, said today’s Senior Winemaker at Houghton, Ross Pamment.

Fruit for this wine has been sourced exclusively from the Justin Vineyard, vines first planted in 1971 in the heart of the Frankland River region and of the highly acclaimed Great Southern GI.

The wine is youthful and seductive, yet with a concentrated amalgam of brightly scented mulberry, cassis, blueberry and dark bramble fruits, with a subtle overlay of vanilla, dried tobacco, wild mint and chocolate box. The palate is rich and multi-layered, with firm, fine-grained tannins. Enjoy now or reap the benefits of careful cellaring 20+ years.
