The highly anticipated 2018 Buffalo Trace Antique Collection has landed in Australia.
To celebrate, the Buffalo Trace team are taking these super rare whiskies on the road. And they've announced the news by donning their vintage valuer hats to create their very own version of daytime TV classic, the “Antique Roadshow”.
The educational series sees bartenders bring along precious bottles from the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection for appraisal from ‘resident experts’ such as Willoughby Grabber III and Dafydd G Jenkins.
Only available to supporters of the distillery’s signature Buffalo Trace Bourbon Whiskey, this year’s release Antique Collection comprises Eagle Rare 17YO (only 15 bottles available in Australia for 2019), George T Stagg, Sazerac 18YO (only 45 bottles available in Australia for 2019), Thomas Handy Rye and Jim Murray’s 2018 whisky of the year, the iconic William Larue Weller.
Buffalo Trace will be hosting several tasting masterclasses across the country to provide bartenders and aficionados alike a once in a lifetime chance to enjoy the wonders of these impressive American Whiskies.
Buffalo Trace Senior Brand Manager at SouthTrade International Jon Prew said: “As soon as the annual allocation hits our shores, there’s a buzz around the Buffers office. It’s the most exciting time of the year for Buffalo Trace with nothing to rival it in the market.
"For this year’s allocation, we wanted to give these rare drops the time they deserve and get liquid on the lips of as many bar trade and whiskey fanatics as possible. We hope the tongue in cheek take on “The Antiques Roadshow” will not only express the quality of these drams and the joint they all hark from, Buffalo Trace Distillery, but also cut through the clutter of yet another mundane masterclass or cocktail competition.”
Named as ‘Distiller of the Year’ at the 2018 Icons of Whisky America awards, the world’s most awarded distillery, Buffalo Trace, has been dedicated to crafting traditionally aged whiskies for well over 200 years.
Every whiskey in the range encapsulates the dedication and innovative methods implemented by each of the previous five iconic master distillers, reflecting their individual styles.
To try all five together in one sitting is a special treat according to Prew. He noted: “This is money can’t buy stuff, it’s something whiskey lovers will be dining out on for years to come… Take Eagle Rare 17 for example. This year’s release has an evaporation rate of 89.5%, with the Angels taking way more than their fair share. We only have 15 bottles for the whole year, but would much rather share this with as many people as possible through the Antique Roadshow.
The Antique Roadshow will be visiting:
• The Gresham, Brisbane – May 21
• NOLA, Adelaide – June 3
• Webster’s, Sydney - August 28
• NOLA, Sydney - TBC
