Jack Daniel’s has released a limited edition expression of its popular Tennessee whiskey in celebration of the distillery’s 150th anniversary.

Master Distiller Jeff Arnett has created a distinctive taste profile for this commemorative whiskey that combines the distillery’s history with modern day craftsmanship. True to the founder, Jasper Newtown ‘Jack’ Daniel, Arnett has created the limited edition expression using the same grain bill as the iconic Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7, consisting of 80 per cent corn, 12 per cent barley and eight per cent rye. The whiskey has then been mellowed through ten feet of sugar maple charcoal, before going into specially crafted new American oak barrels, adhering to the guidelines required of a Tennessee whiskey. The barrels are then placed in the “Angel’s Roost” – one of the oldest barrelhouses at the distillery.

“For this 150th anniversary whiskey, our coopers ‘slow-toasted’ the barrels to bring out the rich flavours and aromas of the wood, creating a contemporary expression of an 1866 barrel char,” explains Arnett. “We wanted to offer a unique whiskey that we think collectors and consumers alike will enjoy for their own celebrations and is as special as the anniversary that it celebrates.”

The Jack Daniel’s 150th Anniversary edition is bottled at 100 proof and offers complex notes of butterscotch and toffee, followed by a full smooth finish of warm flavours of toasted oak.

The 150th Anniversary whiskey is currently available with an RRP of $250.
