Taylors Wines' Mitchell Taylor has broken ground at his family's Clare Valley estate alongside Deputy Premier Susan Close to announce the first upgrade to the winery's cellar door in 50 years.
The family winery is funding the multi-million dollar construction of a new cellar door on site which it says it will be ready for business in April 2023.
“The Clare Valley has quickly become a feature region for travellers looking to immerse themselves in gourmet food and wine experiences. Producers in the area have stepped up to deliver world-class facilities to meet that demand,” Taylor said. “Our cellar door is a fantastic place to showcase our world-renowned wines, but we have plenty of room to grow, and this exciting next step will mean that yet more guests can experience the Clare Valley and our award-winning wines."
The new cellar door will sit adjacent to the building the original homestead located on the grassy lawns of the property, south of the winery’s famous battlement façade of its operational facilities.
Ms Close is also the South Australian Minister for the Environment and she was visiting the site to learn more about Taylors' sustainability initiatives, including its use of ecobottles and the winery's science based targets initiative.
Taylors has engaged South Australian-based experts GP Architects, Cook Building and Georgie Shepherd Interior Design to complete the major cellar door build which comes as the Australian wine industry readies itself for the return of international travellers.
