Archie Rose has announced an innovative partnership with the Sydney Opera House that will see it release of two exclusive whiskies inspired by the venue's music history. Ahead of the November release, the Sydney-based distillery is calling on all music and whisky fans to nominate their favourite Opera House music events from the past 50 years.

Archie Rose Distilling’s Co-Founder Will Edwards said, “it’s an incredible honour to partner with the Sydney Opera House to create these whiskies ten years since we first began producing spirits in Sydney. Or a better way of saying it would be, it’s literally a dream come true.”

The two exclusive whisky releases are being crafted by Archie Rose’s Sensory Team as a reflection of the Opera House music event entries. The two whiskies - named Contemporary and Classical - are inspired by the two overarching categories evidenced by the submissions.

“The team has really enjoyed conceiving a classical and contemporary Australian single malt whisky style in response to the incredible performances we’ve enjoyed under the Opera House sails,” said Edwards.

“We can’t wait to see whisky lovers have the same extraordinary experience when we launch them later this year.”

The Classical Single Malt Whisky draws inspiration from the symphonic, chamber, opera, and choral music that first inspired the creation of the Opera House, and has been described by Archie Rose as honouring the clarity and precision of classical-styled Scottish and Japanese whiskies. In contrast, the Contemporary Single Malt is an embodiment of the vibrant spirit of modern music performances and styles, highlighted by Archie Rose’s use of locally sourced rare and speciality malts. In a statement issued to media, Archie Rose said this whisky showcases Australian provenance and ingenuity, reflecting the dynamic contemporary music talent that has enthralled Opera House audiences for years.

“It’s been a pleasure and a privilege for the Archie Rose production team to consider how some of the Sydney Opera House’s greatest classical and contemporary music performances can inspire two excellent Australian single malt whisky expressions,” said Dave Withers, Archie Rose’s Master Distiller.

“The result is two very distinct whisky styles, both of which are testament to Australia’s malt quality. We’re really looking forward to seeing which style people prefer, and to hearing how enjoying the whiskies while listening to music enhances their experience,” Dave Withers, Master Distiller.

The competition closes to submissions on 14 August. To enter a response and to learn more, visit the dedicated Sydney Opera House webpage here.
