AWRI welcomes Wendy Cameron as a board member

The Australian Wine Research Institute (AWRI) has just announced the results of its recent Board election, with Former Brown Brothers chief winemaker Wendy Cameron elected in the medium producer category.

Having worked for Brown Brothers for 17 years, initially as a winemaker and for 10 years as Head of Winemaking, Cameron is an experienced winemaker and wine business manager.

Moreover, Cameron has accumulated impressive industry skills, having managed her own small family winery business in Victoria, awarded the inaugural ASVO Winemaker of the Year Award in 2012 and was a finalist in the Gourmet Traveller Wine Winemaker of the Year competition in 2015.

She also holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Biochemistry and Microbiology), a Masters of Science (Biochemistry), a Bachelor of Applied Science (Wine Science) a Graduate Diploma of Education, a Graduate Certificate of Business and is a Master of Wine.

Currently, Cameron works as an independent wine consultant to Brown Brothers Milawa Vineyards as well as doing some freelance wine writing and business consulting to Meredith Dairy.

The other new board members are Dr John Harvey of Bathe Wines in South Australia, who was elected in the small producer category and Iain Jones of Treasury Wine Estates, who was the only nominated candidate from the large producer category and was therefore elected unopposed.

AWRI Chair Louisa Rose, welcomed the new directors, stating: “John, Wendy and Iain bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the AWRI Board and I look forward to working with them over the next three years.

“With a new long-term funding agreement with Wine Australia having just been signed, this is an exciting time to be involved in the future direction of grape and wine research, development and extension in Australia”, said Rose.

All three Directors will commence their elected term on January 1, 2018. The terms of outgoing Directors, Kim Horton and Dr Stuart McNab, will conclude on December 31, 2017.
