Congratulations to Melbourne's Black Pearl on winning Best International Cocktail Bar at the 11th Annual Spirited Awards!
Presented by Tales of the Cocktail, the winners were announced on Saturday night at the Sheraton Hotel in New Orleans.
“The Spirited Awards get more and more competitive because our industry keeps raising its game every single year,” said Ann and Paul Tuennerman, Co-Founders of Tales of the Cocktail. “Congrats to this year’s winners on monumental accomplishment.”
Since being founded in 2007, the Spirited Awards have grown to become one of the prestigious and sought-after awards in the industry. Winners are voted on by two panels of over 100 industry experts.
The top gong of the night is the World’s Best Bar award, which compiles the gross votes for both American and International finalists in the following categories: Best High Volume Cocktail Bar, Best Hotel Bar, Best Restaurant Bar, Best Cocktail Bar or World’s Best Cocktail Menu.
Black Pearl was edged out by London's Dandelyan, which took home both the signature Riedel Crystal Trophy and the bragging rights of being honored as the best in the world.
The London watering hole, founded by Ryan Chetiyawardana at the Mondrian Hotel, beat out competitors including New York’s Dante, Singapore’s Tippling Club, and Boston’s The Hawthorne.
Black Pearl shared its joy on Instagram, with a shot of its award and the caption: "No words. @tales_of_the_cocktail #spiritedawards Best International Cocktail Bar. The biggest love to everyone for enjoying what we've been doing for the last 15 years, and having as much fun being in our bar as we do. We can't tell you how much we appreciate it xxx"
The bar was up against finalists Bramble (Edinburgh, UK), Le Syndicat (Paris, France) and Little Red Door (Paris, France).
Black Pearl describes itself as "A neighbourhood bar, deep within the heart of Fitzroy."
Open until 3am every night, this neighbourhood bar has been at the forefront of cocktail innovation and customer service. 15 years, this family owned business has been a breeding ground for the country’s best bartenders, "showing you don’t have to take yourself seriously to create seriously good drinks."
