In honour of the Lunar New Year, Barossa Valley family winery Château Tanunda has launched a special edition magnum of its 2021 Grand Barossa Shiraz, celebrating the arrival of the 2023 Year of the Rabbit.

The special edition release of the winery’s 2021 Grand Barossa Shiraz comes in a 1.5-litre magnum format, making it the perfect choice for both hosting Lunar New Year celebrations and gifting. ‘Year of the Rabbit’ is the third iteration of these special bottlings for Château Tanunda, with the 2022 ‘Year of the Tiger’ and 2021 ‘Year of the Ox’ popular collector's items for the Spring Festival celebrations.

Established in 1890, Château Tanunda is known as the birthplace of the Barossa Valley and home to a selection of the region's oldest vines. With over 130 years of fine winemaking under its belt, the winery produces some of the finest expressions of the Barossa Valley region, receiving international recognition from critics, collectors and wine lovers alike.

“The limited edition Lunar New Year releases have become a highly anticipated release at Château Tanunda with people all over the world keen to get their hands on the intricately designed label,” second-generation Managing Director of Château Tanunda, Michelle Geber, said.

“According to Chinese astrology, the Year of the Rabbit symbolises longevity, peace, prosperity and new beginnings, so we will be raising our glass to that as we celebrate.”

Grand Barossa Shiraz 2021 Year of the Rabbit Edition 1.5 litre magnum

A bold Barossa Shiraz of class and refinement that showcases the classic dark plum, blackberry, exotic spice and toasty flavours of the region.

The Shiraz grapes were fermented in small batches to retain their sub-regional characters. After destemming, the wine was fermented for a week on skins in small open fermenters and hand-plunged twice daily to encourage maximum extraction while retaining the dense, spicy fruit flavours that Shiraz is renowned for. The wine was gently basket pressed before spending up to 18 months in a combination of new and seasoned French and American oak barrels in the Château Tanunda cellars.

The Grand Barossa Shiraz 2021 ‘Year of the Rabbit’ Edition Magnum is available from www.chateautanundacellar.com and select independent retailers for RRP: $79.
