Carlton and United Breweries (CUB) has promised that it will have adequate supplies of beer for its customers and consumers this upcoming peak season.
After concerns about its recent change of outsourced providers, CUB has been working with unions to resolve the dispute.
CUB has addressed untrue claims and offered the following statement:
“Carlton and United Breweries (CUB) has reassured their customers and consumers it has adequate supplies of beer for the upcoming peak season.
CUB has been negotiating in good faith with the ETU and AMWU around a dispute relating to a change of outsourced maintenance contracts at the Abbotsford brewery.
Claims CUB sacked 55 workers without notice are untrue. CUB has not employed maintenance workers since 2009, when those impacted by the services being outsourced were paid redundancies of $150,000 - $200,000.
In June this year CUB announced a change of outsourced providers. Anyone losing their job is not an issue taken lightly – that’s why CUB gave six months’ notice of the end of the contract and people were paid redundancies by their employer.
CUB has listened to concerns from unions and recently engaged a contractor offering union-endorsed conditions with competitive rates between $70,000 and $120,000 before overtime – well above award rates. Overtime for these roles typically adds a further $30,000 to $50,000 per year.
CUB will continue to engage in talks at Fair Work in an attempt to resolve the dispute.
