Diageo Australia has announced Dan Hamilton will take over as Managing Director after Angus McPherson vacates the position at the end of September.

Taking the reigns from October 1, Hamilton brings a wealth of experience to the role, having held senior positions within Diageo’s China, Japan, Europe and Korea markets, most recently as Managing Director for Korea and Japan.

John O’Keeffe, President of Diageo Asia Pacific, said Hamilton comes to the position with a proven track record leading acceleration and growth in overseas markets.

Since taking up the role of General Manager Diageo Japan in 2016, O’Keeffe said Hamilton “drove a step change in execution, making it one of the fastest growing Scotch businesses in Diageo and winning significant market share across all categories.

“As Managing Director for Korea and Japan, Dan successfully led the acceleration of growth for our Korea business and turbocharged the premiumisation of the portfolio.

“We know Dan’s deep knowledge of the business, his relationships within the industry, and his strategic insights will set him up well to continue Diageo Australia’s strong growth trajectory,” said O’Keeffe.

Originally from Australia, Hamilton joined Diageo in 2011 and has gained experience in leadership roles overseas for almost a decade.

Diageo Australia announced McPherson would leave the business at the end of September to pursue “an opportunity outside the company.”
