Today, Gibson Wines has announced the first ever Riesling Seltzer to the Australian market as part of its innovation-focused Discovery Road brand portfolio. To be released publicly on 1 September, The Discovery Road by Gibson blends premium single-vineyard Eden Valley Riesling with pure Adelaide Hills sparkling water and lemongrass.
CEO Chad Elson attributes two major milestones to the final success of the project: “one was the amazing success A Rock And a Hard Place have had with their premium Adelaide Hills water… [and] the other was working with the Barossa Bushgardens, our local botanic garden, which acts as a seedbank and nursery for plant species native to the region.
“We discovered native lemongrass through specimen plantings there. Learning of its history used as a herbal tea in Indigenous culture, we then sourced it in larger quantities from an Indigenous-owned native food supplier, based in the Clare Valley,” he continued.
The Discovery Road by Gibson Riesling Seltzer is available now at $9 per 250ml can in extremely limited quantities. In total, only 3,680 individual cans were produced in the debut release.
According to Adam Fiegert, Winemaker, the new Discovery Road release displays “subtle ginger-kaffir aromatic from the lemongrass that sits beautifully with pure citrus qualities of Eden Valley Riesling. The slatey, mineral finish brought out through the sparkling spring water is ultra-refreshing.
“Being in 250ml cans itself brings with it new occasions. Pool-side, at the beach or at outdoor events is Riesling Seltzer’s native habitat.”
