Best known for its Australian Craft Gin Advent Calendars, Gintonica has been put on the market by owner David Box, who will focus his attention on distillery services instead.

Founded in 2017, the subscription service produced gin-tasting boxes featuring gin samples, a monthly gin subscription service and advent calendars each year.

In a short statement released late last week, Box said: “I have decided to focus the ongoing business on distillery services, under the name “Spirited Bottlers”.

“This will include contract filling, capping and labelling bottles for distilleries as well as supply of bespoke packaging and Gintonica’s own exclusively sourced 30mL and 50mL bottles,” he said.

The sale of Gintonica will include the business names, substantial database, websites, stock and media content. Having recently expanded into the world of Australian craft whisky, Box launched WhiskyRocks, which is also included in the sale.

“The team and I are proud to have contributed to the promotion and rise in popularity of Australian Gin and, more recently, Whisky, but now it is time to hand over the reins to new passionate gin lovers who, I am sure, will take it to the next level,” said Box.

The announcement comes at a difficult time for online alcohol businesses, with online retailer Boozebud and B2B supply chain platform Kaddy both bringing in voluntary administrators in the last few weeks.
