Hear Me Roar - the Gin raises much-needed funds for women in wine, and Australian Women in Wine (AWIW) has re-released a second batch just in time for Christmas.
It’s the world’s only gin where 100% of profits go to assist women to flourish and succeed in their chosen profession in the wine industry.
Like the Hear Me Roar Shiraz released in 2019 and the first batch of Hear Me Roar – the Gin in 2022, all proceeds from the sale of this gin will go towards programs and professional development for women in the Australian wine industry.
Available for sale via the AWIW website, this is the second release of Hear Me Roar – the Gin. The first batch, released in 2022, sold out.
The brand name Hear Me Roar is a deliberate reference to the iconic Helen Reddy song released in 1971 and taken up more widely as a rallying cry for change.
The recipe was determined by vote after asking women in wine across the industry to submit ingredients they thought should be included.
The winner was Tracy Taylor of Tasmania's Southwood Vineyards. The gin is infused with her suggested combination of blackcurrant leaf, native finger lime and Tasmanian pepperberry.
AWIWA Board member, winemaker and owner/distiller of Lucid Distilling, Rebekah (Beck) Richardson, is the maker of Hear Me Roar Gin.
"We have been absolutely blown away by the wine industry support of the Hear Me Roar project. The gin was a bit left of centre, given we are women in wine, but we know most of us love a good gin, and it has been nice to do something a bit different. We’ve brought it back by popular demand,” says Beck.
Women represent just under 30 per cent of professionals across all areas of the wine industry, highlighting a significant gender disparity.
At senior levels, this representation drops to less than ten per cent. And production roles, like winemaking sit at just 17 per cent.
The entire project has been supported by industry donations, services and products including Denomination Design for the label design, CCL for the labels, Saverglass for the bottles, Closure Pak for the stoppers, Lucid Distilling for distillation and sponsorship and The Fabulous Ladies’ Wine Society for promotion and marketing.
