Bruichladdich Distillery Tasting Session
Following the recent redesign of The Classic Laddie, Bruichladdich hosted a Distillery tasting session that included both The Classic Laddie and the Octomore Series 13.
One of the highlights of the tasting was learning about the decreased environmental impact of The Classic Laddie's packaging revamp, which has managed to cut CO2 emissions by 65% by eradicating the secondary tin and by introducing lighter recycled glass.
Tasting through the 14th edition of Bruichladdich Distillery's Octomore brand was also an invaluable experience. Octomore, known for its unexpected elegance in spite of its super-heavily peated profile, is aged for five years and bottled at close to cask strength.
On offer at the tasting was the 14.1, 14.2, and 14.3, with the 14.4 remaining a distillery exclusive.
The first in the lineup, the Octomore 14.1 is distilled from 100% Scottish barley in first-fill bourbon casks and serves as the series' backbone.
Next, the Octomore 14.2 is made from 100% Scottish barley and aged in a blend of Oloroso and Amarone casks, showcasing wine and sherry influences.
The Octomore 14.3 is distilled from 100% Islay barley from Octomore farm, matured in a mix of first-fill ex-American whiskey and second-fill wine casks, capturing Islay's distinct terroir.
All three were drinking beautifully and reflected the spirit for which the Octomore brand is now renowned.
