Famous for its production of Tasmanian whisky, Sullivans Cove is now also producing gin on the island.

The making of the new gin has been under wraps at the distillery for the last year, but now Hobart No. 4 comes to trade as Australia's newest brand of gin.

What makes this gin so interesting, is that it is one of the only gins in the world be have been made from malt spirit - the same used in Sullivans Cove whisky. It is bottled at 44% ABV and double distilled from barley in Sullivans Cove's pot still. The team have then selected four Australian botanicals - lemon myrtle, anise myrtle, lanceolata and wattleseed - plus local soft water to create a Tasmanian Dry Gin.

On the nose, it has bright aromas of lemon, fresh pine needles, white pepper and mat spice. The palate is herbaceous with notes of cracked peppercorns, orange peer, grapefruit, vanilla and liquorice, leading to a finish full of flavours of cloves and cinnamon that give way to a slightly sweet, malty smooth and long finish.

The gin is currently available from Alepat Taylor on the mainland and ALM in Tasmania for $72LUC.
