Matty Follent has joined the Starward Whisky team as their latest Brand Ambassador.
The company said: "At a time that Starward is experiencing dynamic growth, both domestically and internationally, Matty will be the perfect addition to continue driving the brand forward to success."
Follent's career began in Geelong’s Strasse Bar, where his extensive knowledge and focus on customer service established his reputation rapidly and he quickly progressed onto Head Bartender at Bar 1806.
His skills were recognised by accolades such as winning The Perfect Blend competition in 2016 and finishing third at the 2017 Diageo World Class Australian Finals.
Most recently, Follent worked for Sweet & Chilli as Victorian Account Manager where he oversaw the management and execution of major events such as Splendour in the Grass and rolled out the Diageo Bar Academy program.
Follent said: “I was first drawn to Starward given it is born and bred in Melbourne. Having visited Starward’s very first Essendon distillery when I was younger, I fell in love with the product and brand story early on. I’m thrilled to join the Starward team at a time that their whisky is experiencing unimaginable growth.
"The team’s drive and ambition to constantly evolve the category and break the boundaries of what whisky is perceived to be was also a huge selling point for me.
“I am most looking forward to deep diving back into the dark world of whisky and capturing as many Australian palates and hearts as possible, whether an avid whisky drinker or new to the category."
Scott English, Starward’s Commercial Sales Director, added: “Matty caught our eye straight away due to his passion for the brand and eagerness to take Starward’s drink experience and cocktail curation to the next level.
"Matty’s undeniable energy, experience and national recognition through numerous accolades will be the perfect addition to our ever-growing, passionate and committed Starward team.”
When asked the all-important initiation question, what is his preferred drink of choice, Follent said: “My favourite cocktail would definitely be the boulevardier - simple but delicious.”
