Mezcal who? Modus Brewing introduces the first Australian Tepache

Innovative Newcastle Brewery, Modus releases Modus Tepache, a Mexican-style drink with a recipe steeped in Mexican history and culture.

A favourite across Central and Northern America, Tepache is a fermented beverage slightly milder than Kombucha, that combines pineapple and cinnamon to create a crisp, refreshing and wholly new style of alcoholic beverage.

With sustainability in mind, all ingredients used in Modus Tepache are 100% natural and sourced directly from Aussie farmers; with all elements of the pineapple used in the production of this zesty little number.

A Traditional Recipe Rooted in Mexican Culture

Tepache traces its roots back to ancient Mexican civilizations, with a history that spans centuries. This drink is believed to have been consumed by the Aztecs and Mayans as a sacred and celebratory libation. Its preparation was a laborious process involving the fermentation of pineapple rinds, cinnamon, and often piloncillo (unrefined sugar) to create a beverage that was both refreshing and mildly alcoholic. Tepache quickly became an integral part of Mexican culture, consumed during festivals, and religious ceremonies, and as a symbol of hospitality.
