Bundaberg Distilling Company (BDC) has announced plans to invest $7.5 million into building a new visitors' experience at its Queensland distillery.

The new centre, which is expected to be completed in July 2016, will bring the Bundaberg Rum brand story and history to life for visitors through an interactive self-guided tour. At the end of the tour, visitors will be invited to learn how to blend their own rum that they can then take home.

"We've modelled the new visitor centre off our state-of-the-art Barrel House, as it offers visitors the chance to get a first-hand view of hour our premium rums are crafted", Senior Brand Manager, Duncan Littler said.

"The centre will be housed in two of the BDC's repurposed bond stores, which have housed millions of litres of Bundaberg Rum over the years, so you really couldn't hope to get any closer to the real experience."

The centre will host the world's largest display of historical Bundaberg Rum bottles. Visitors will also be able to purchase the full range of Bundaberg Rum products, as well as products sold exclusively at the distillery.

Over the last ten years, BDC has invested approximately $5 million into improving the distillery as a tourist destination - currently listed as the number one attraction in the Bundaberg region on TripAdvisor.

Minister for Tourism and Major Events, Kate Jones, has congratulated BDC for investing in the site, recognising the distillery as an iconic experience for visitors to the Southern Great Barrier Reef region and its contribution to the local economy.

"Through the investment we're able to ensure the success of the distillery, while at the same time ensuring the success of the region by strengthening tourism and local employment."
