Starward have released their Ginger Beer Cask #7, a single malt whisky that the distillery says is fresh in terms of profile as well as the ‘cool’ factor. It comes after Cask #6 won double gold at the 2022 San Francisco Spirit Competition.
With a star-studded profile of ginger, orange and dark chocolate with oaky vanilla and Starward's signature tropical notes shining on the palate, they say that it is approachable and easy to drink.
"You don’t need to be a seasoned whisky lover to enjoy the zesty and sweet spice of this whisky. It is perfect in cocktails, poured neat and even better when shared amongst friends and loved ones," says Starward.
This year’s ginger beer recipe was jampacked with more fresh ginger than ever and aged in American oak ex-Starward casks, offering bolder vanilla and spice notes.
Founder Dave Vitale said “Ginger Beer is known for its versatility, vibrancy, and fun. The reason so, is because it came to be from a distillery playing around and experimenting with amazing ingredients. Back in 2014, our distillers put their brewer hats on and had a go at brewing a ginger beer. What expression comes forward each release is purely dependent on what they’ve played with this year."
This release was finished red wine and Apera single malt whisky in American Oak that previously held Starward's spicy, distillery made ginger beer.
Ginger Beer Cask #7 will be released in a 700ml bottle for $149.00 and is now available at www.starward.com.au and leading national retailers. Be quick: this highly sought-after whisky is expected to sell out quickly.
The History
- Cask #1 - 2014: Starward distillers started to play and made a ginger beer at the distillery. All our ingredients were sourced from the local La Manna supermarket.
- Cask #2 - 2015: The second ginger beer recipe was a malt based brewed ginger beer made at the distillery in Essendon Fields.
- Cask #3 - 2017: Starward brewed ginger beer was malt based and focused on the citrus, ginger and other botanicals.
- Cask #4 -2018: This year’s ginger beer was brewed by Boatrocker Brewers & Distillers (the ginger beer was released by Boatrocker as Fred) in collaboration with Starward distiller. Aged in Starward Apera whisky barrels, the recipe included lots of fresh ginger, lemongrass and citrus peel with a twelve month finish.
- Cask #5 - 2020: – The same base ginger beer, brewed by Boatrocker as release #4, however it was finished in the ginger beer barrels for 24 months.
- Cask #6 - 2021: – Brewing brought back in-house to Starward. This was the first release to include red wine barrels in the ginger beer recipe. Apera barrels had been used previously. The red wine barrels added a depth of flavour to this release.
- Cask #7 - 2022: More fresh ginger for the spicy zing and only American Oak red wine barrels for to add richness and increase vanilla and coconut characters.
