On Friday, Adelaide Hills Wine Region (AHWR) launched Chardonnay May, an initiative that will see wineries and cellar doors, restaurants and bottle shops collaborate on events, activations and promotions to drive awareness, revenue and tourism to the region through one of its ‘hero’ grapes.

Ever growing local and international appreciation of Adelaide Hills' hero: Chardonnay, the month long celebration is a chance for wineries and associated members to showcase and celebrate the variety of the grape throughout the region.

Throughout May, members can register to run up to four different activities, promoted through the AHWR’s various platforms.

Fiona LeSage, Executive Officer at AHWR said: “The Adelaide Hills is a leader in New Australian – New Wave Chardonnay and we want the public to join with us in celebrating this noble grape. There are still some misconceptions about Chardonnay and through this program, we’re showing consumers that our region offers a myriad of ways to enjoy it - from crisp styles that show more acidity to those that show complex characters that are the perfect food match.

“It’s great that this first year of the Chardonnay May wine program coincides with the 2021 Year of South Australian Wine campaign, and we encourage all our members to come on board and make the most of the promotional and marketing support that will underpin the campaign.”

Chardonnay May runs throughout the whole month, with participants holding activity both in the Adelaide Hills and the wider Adelaide area. More events and activities will be confirmed as the date nears. Events include tastings, food and wine pairings and masterclasses and the campaign will be well supported by AHWR.
