The challenge was open to all ‘Working Members’ of Sommeliers Australia and tested sommeliers on their ability to blind taste four sparkling wines. Filiuta was chosen from 31 finalists by judges - Joshua Elias - Editor in Chief, Alquimie Magazine; Amanda Yallop - Sommeliers Australia Representative; Leanne Altmann - 2014 Sommeliers Challenge Winner; and Panaïotis, who also chose three runners up alongside Filiuta, which included John Mackinnon of Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney, Tessa Murray of Supernormal, Melbourne and Tom Brushfield of Peter Rowland Catering, Melbourne.
As winner of the challenge, Adrian will receive a return business class trip to France in July where he will join Sommeliers Challenge winners from the US and Hong Kong in Champagne to undertake further training with the Ruinart Chef de Caves.
