Queensland bartender, Alissa Gabriel, will be representing Australia at the Global Finals of the BACARDÍ Legacy Cocktail Competition in May, after winning the National Finals last night in Melbourne.

Gabriel, from The Manhattan Line in Brisbane, won the competition with her cocktail the Bouteiller.

The winning cocktail was inspired by the relationship between Don Facundo Bacardi and José León Bouteiller – a French distiller employed by Facundo, today recognised for his significant contribution to the success of BACARDÍ Rum.

The judges, who were sixth generation Bacardi family member and Global Brand Manager, Enrique Comas; Bacardi Master Blender, Jose Sanchez Gavito; bartender, Phil Bayly and 2014 National Legacy Winner, Gred Siggins, judged Gabriel on her technical ability, the drink and the marketing campaign Gabriel developed behind her cocktail.

Gabriel will go on to represent Australia in the Global Finals in Sydney this year in May, where she will compete against a number of other global finalists for the BACARDÍ Legacy title.

“What night and what an honour. I couldn’t be more thrilled about taking out the National title for this year’s BACARDÍ Legacy Global Cocktail Competition. The whole experience has been amazing. It’s now on to the Global Final where I hope to stamp not only Australia, but Rockhampton, firmly at the forefront of the global bartending community where it belongs”, Gabriel commented.
