The St Andrews range is a collection of the very best wines produced at the winery, each a reflection of Taylors’ handcrafted approach to winemaking.
The new vintages have already received numerous awards on the wine show circuit; the 2013 St Andrews Shiraz in particular, which is now the winery’s most awarded wine after receiving 20 gold medals, four double gold medals and the Clare Valley Wine of the Year trophy at the China Wine & Spirits Awards.
Each wine is made from blocks grown on the St Andrews vineyard, and this year the St Andrews Shiraz was made from the bottom A30 block, a site referred to as “God” by Taylors' winemaking and viticulture teams for the quality and intensity of fruit it produces each year.
Located on the southwest corner of the vineyard is the A60 block, which bear the fruit predominantly used in this year's release of the St Andrews Cabernet Sauvignon. The deep, rich terra rossa and limestone soils on this block have provided the perfect environment for yet another premium and delightful St Andrews Cabernet.
Most of the fruit for Taylors' 2014 St Andrews Chardonnay was drawn predominantly from block V10 and V20, resulting in a sumptuous wine full of flavour and texture. There is a lovely creaminess on the mid-palate, followed by flavours of juicy white fleshed stone fruit, cleansing citrus and some brilliant toasty notes.
The 2015 Riesling is still tight and restrained with a linear focus to the palate and purity of fruit flavours. There are lashings of fresh lemon/lime juice characters up front and a slate-like minerality across the mid-palate.
