Australian whiskies have picked up 39 medals in The World Whiskies Awards.

The global awards, presented by The Drinks Report, select the very best in all internationally recognised styles of whiskies.

“It’s pretty much the Olympic Games of the whiskey world,” said Mark Watkins, from Tropical North Queensland distillers Mt Uncle Distillery.

Mt Uncle's The Watkins was named the finest in the ’12 Years and Under’ malt whisky category."

“Performing well here is epic for us, a great testament to the team and we’re stoked to put Walkamin on the map,” Watkins added.

In Round 1 of the World Whiskies Awards, the panel of experts blind tasted entries by their style and in their region. These were also grouped by age statement in order to determine the best whiskies by overall category.

In Round 2 of the World Whiskies Awards, style winners will be tasted against each other to identify the ‘Best’ whisky in each category. In Round 3, the ‘Best’ whisky in each category will then tasted against each other one last time to select the World’s Best whisky.
