The Australian Government has banned the export of luxury goods, including wine and spirits to Russia.

The ban extends to luxury fashion, lobster and comes just days after the imposition of targeted financial sanctions and travel bans on a further 67 individuals for their role in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Senator Marise Payne said, "These sanctions target President Putin and his wealthy enablers, not ordinary Russian consumers. They are being undertaken in coordination with key partners to restrict the Russian elite’s access to such goods.

"The European Union and the United States already have bans in effect. Japan’s ban will enter into force today, and the United Kingdom’s ban is due to follow soon."

The sanctions are intended to impact those responsible for the aggression in Ukraine and indicate Australia's ongoing support for the people of Ukraine.
