Australian producers have dazzled judges at this year’s Perth Royal Wine Show, with 26 Major Trophies awarded to top winemakers across the country.

On the back of three Trophies and 19 Medals, Houghton was awarded the show’s 2015 Bill Jamieson Trophy for Most Successful Western Australian Exhibitor.

Houghton received the Trophy alongside The Royal Agricultural Society of WA Trophy for Best Dry Red Table Wine and Best Dry White Table Wine, which were awarded to the 2013 Houghton C.W Ferguson Cabernet Malbec and 2011 Houghton Heritage White Blend.

Ross Pamment, Houghton’s 13th Senior Winemaker was overjoyed with the number of awards the winery received, in particular the Bill Jamieson Trophy.

“To be recognised as the best in Western Australia, among your peers who are equally as worthy, is extremely rewarding.”

A local, Castelli Estate, won the Portavin Integrated Wine Services Trophy for Best Wine of the Show with the Castelli Estate il Liris Chardonnay. A multi-win for Castelli, who also won the Trophy for Best Western Australian Wine, Best White Table Wine, Best Western Australian White Table Wine and Best Chardonnay.

Taylors too took home a tremendous win, awarded the Waterfood Wedgwood Trophy for Best Shiraz with the 2014 Taylors Estate Shiraz.

“It’s fantastic to see one of our top selling wines receive a trophy in its varietal class. It’s a real testament to the hard work and dedication of our vineyard and winemaking team who delivers such a high level of quality right across our portfolio.”

Devil’s Lair was also one of the show’s most successful exhibitors, receiving The Royal Agricultural Society of WA Trophy for the exhibitor whose five or more judged entries gained the highest average points.

Other Trophy winners included Lindeman’s who received three Trophies for Best Red Table Wine, Best 2013 Vintage Dry Red Table Wine and Best Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as Eddystone Point - Pinot Noir (Best Pinot Noir), Grant Burge Wines - Helene Grande Cuvee (Best Sparkling Wine) and McGuigan Wines - McGuigan Shortlist Semillon 2007 (Best Semillon).
