The course undertaken by the graduates is said to develop an in-depth knowledge of wines and spirits, and the Diploma is universally recognised as a stepping-stone to the Master of Wine qualification.

Two Australian WSET candidates were further honoured with notable awards.
Caitlin Parker, Sommelier at Rockpool Bar and Grill, was awarded The Lathwaite’s Scholarship, and Ed Merrison from Shoreham, Victoria, was awarded the Fine Wine Partners Scholarship.
This academic year was record breaking for WSET, with 72, 171 exams taken globally, a 17 per cent increase from last year. WSET’s new Honorary President, Steven Spurrier, was also announced on the night; he will be taking over from Gérard Basset after three years in the role.
