Adam Dow, Ivy Head of Bars at Merivale, made it to the top three Grand Finalists in the Global Bacardi Legacy Grand Final .
Bacardi gave USD$5,000 to each national competitor wiht funds intended to contribute to supporting the bartenders and the hospitality industry on the road to recovery. Of his USD$5,000 El Coco Grant, Mr Dow has set aside AUD$1,000 to go to create a grant intended for women in the hospitality industry, The Golden Rule.
The Golden Rule Grant aims to support a recipient's professional development and to help bridge the gender gap in the Australian hospitality industry. Anyone who identifies as female can apply.
“The hospitality industry has given me some wonderful opportunities, all of which I worked hard for, but I acknowledge my privilege as a white, middle-class male has handed me a head start in my career. I believe it is my obligation to acknowledge this privilege and work to actively bridge the gender gap that exits in the industry, ” said Mr Dow.
“Bridging the gap for gender equality is therefore an important part of my Legacy, not just for now but for years to come,” he said.
Praphakorn Konglee from Thailand, with his bespoke cocktail Out of Sight, was judged the winner and made Bacardi Legacy history with Thailand the first ever country to retain the title for a second year. The Grand Final was live-streamed from London at 1:30am, Thursday, 1 July (AEST).
