This year, Beenleigh Distillery is turning 140 years old, making it the oldest operating distillery in Australia across all spirits categories. To honour the occasion, Beenleigh has announced the release of a new limited-edition rum: The Legend.

According to Beenleigh Brand Manager Will Sullivan, “The Legend is more than just a rum – it’s a tribute to Australia’s spirit and the people who have supported us through generations. This special release embodies the craftsmanship we’ve honed over 140 years, and we’re excited to share it with both loyal fans and new drinkers.”

Only 1,884 bottles of The Legend have been released globally by the distillery, with pre-orders open now ahead of shipping from 19 October.

Now owned by Vok Beverages, the Queensland distillery stands as a hallmark of Australia’s spirits industry and was added to the Queensland Heritage Register in 2004.

"Beenleigh is more than just a distillery - it's a living, breathing symbol of resilience, craftsmanship, and community spirit," said Sullivan.

"As we celebrate 140 years, we’re not only looking back at our history but also forward to continuing this journey with the next generation of rum lovers. This anniversary is a testament to everyone who has been part of our story - our drinkers, our makers, and our Queensland home.”

According to the distillery, each bottle of Beenleigh The Legend is aged to perfection and crafted with the finest Queensland molasses and offers a palate of toasted caramel, oak, and spice with a smooth, warming finish. Beenleigh The Legend will be available to pre-order and order at $80 per bottle while stocks last.

Beenleigh’s 140th Anniversary Event

On Saturday 19 October, Beenleigh will celebrate its anniversary at a consumer event at its heritage-listed distillery. The ticketed event costs $30 and will provide attendees with the opportunity to immerse themselves in the history and craft of rum-making through exclusive tours, live music, auctions, and specialty cocktails.

According to Chris Illman, Beenleigh’s Director of Hospitality, Sales, and Marketing, “Beenleigh is not just a Queensland icon, but a national treasure. This event is a chance to bring people together to celebrate the history and future of Australian rum-making.

“It’s a day for everyone to enjoy, whether they’ve been drinking Beenleigh for years or are just discovering the craft.”

Beenleigh Pineapple Crush RTD

Beenleigh also recently launched a new RTD product to market. According to Will Sullivan, the Beenleigh Rum & Pineapple Crush is a “drink that promises a premium, full-flavoured experience that’s perfect for any occasion” developed “in response to the booming RTD market.”

“As we approach our 140th anniversary, the introduction of a white rum-based RTD marks a pivotal moment in Beenleigh’s rich history,” he added in August.

“This launch not only highlights our unwavering commitment to growth and innovation in the rapidly evolving drinks space but also pays homage to our storied past.”
