Australia's top rosés will be revealed for the first time at the 2019 Australian Drinks Awards.
The Drinks Association has added rosé as a brand category to reflect booming sales of pink wine in Australia and around the globe.
Thrive Research has judged the winners of the awards via a survey of 4000 target consumers.
The top 200 drinks brands in the country were automatically considered for the Fan Favourite, Most Distinctive Brand and Gaining in Popularity awards.
The top rosés will be announced at the Australian Drinks Awards in three weeks time, with Manildra, IRI and BevChain sponsoring the respective brand awards.
According to Wine Intelligence‘s Rosé and Pink Moscato Wine Drinkers in the Australian Market 2018 report, a third of all regular wine drinkers are now choosing to drink rosé not only in the summer, but also throughout the year.
This is almost double the population of year-round drinkers compared with Wine Intelligence data from 2007.The pink beverage is particularly popular with younger consumers, with 50% of monthly drinkers aged 34 and under.
The report also found that rosé consumption is now nearly equal between males and females.
Meanwhile, exports of Provencal rosé have risen 14-fold over the past 10 years, according to trade association CIVP said. Exports rose 8% in value last year, roughly three times the increase for French wines overall.
"The popularity of rosé has been growing over recent years," noted Thrive Insights Director Chris Papadimitriou. "This is not surprising as it’s a type of wine that suits our lifestyle and goes with a wide range of foods."
In total, the number of brand awards increases from 33 to 42 at the 2019 Australian Drinks Awards.
"The voting for the rosé category have been very close and with the inclusion of this exciting new category, the awards will be bigger and better than ever this year," Papadimitriou added.
The Australian Drinks Awards will be held in Sydney, on August 22, 2019.
