Bacardi Spiced has launched in Australia, made with rum mellowed in charred American oak for a hint of smokiness and blended with natural flavours and spices.
The versatile drink can be enjoyed with a classic mixer such as cola or ginger ale, even by itself poured over ice.
The arrival of Bacardi Spiced to the market comes in response to the increasing global demand for flavoured rums. Unlike some other flavoured rums on the market, Bacardi Spiced does not use artificial sweeteners to enhance its flavours.
“Introducing a spiced blend to our BACARDÍ trademark was a natural decision as consumers have shown tremendous demand for it,” said Sarah Nichols, Marketing Director – Bacardi-Martini Australia.
“We’re confident Bacardi Spiced will satisfy the taste buds of long-time spiced rum drinkers as well as converting some new fans with its unique combination of spices and flavours.”
Spiced and flavoured rum has been a winner in the UK in 2020, proving popular with consumers aged 25-44 at supermarket chain Sainsburys.
“Gin lured countless drinkers away from vodka, with classics like the Negroni flourishing as drinkers craved punchy new botanical flavours," Sainsbury’s spirit expert, Tom Sandham , told Drinks Business. "Now gin drinkers are turning towards rum for the same reason, as it’s the ideal stepping-stone drink into aged spirits: not too bitter, and lovely mixed or neat. Rum’s time has come."
Sainsbury’s year on year rum sales have grown by 39% compared to all spirits sales, which increased by 21%.
Bacardi Spiced rum will be available at Dan Murphy’s, BWS and select independent retailers from late August - RRP $48.
