The 2014 was low yielding with a growing season notably cooler than average, Bay of Fires Winemaker and Manager, Penny Jones said. However, fruit was able to retain natural acidity and concentration of flavour, Jones added.
“The pinot is perhaps the highlight of the 2014 vintage, although it’s still early days for the chardonnay,” Jones said.
The 2014 Bay of Fires Pinot Noir (RRP $42.99) represents the next step in the winery’s evolution of style, as Bay of Fires winemakers continue to explore and develop their resources. Fruit for the pinot was sourced from Meadowbank Vineyard in the Derwent River Valley and the Tolpuddle Vineyard in the Coal River Valley, and was used in natural fermentation.
The 10th vintage produced by Bay of Fires, the 2014 Bay of Fires Chardonnay (RRP $42.99), upholds the winery’s tradition of preserving the fruit’s natural characteristics and yielding the region’s highest quality blend. It is a wine made in true cool climate style, with lifted aromas of peach and preserved lemon, followed by a long, textured palate.
The new vintages are currently available nationally through Accolade Wines.
