Carlton and United Breweries (CUB) reports that beer sales are expected to surge in the lead up to and on Australia Day.
The brewing giant says sales have been increasing year on year, and saw a significant increase by 3.4 per cent between 2013 and 2014.
“Relaxing and beer go hand-in-hand with most people who drink beer, seeing it as something which makes them feel laid back and sociable”, CUB’s Jeremy Griffith said.
“Australia Day is a celebration day, but it’s definitely a day to spend with friends and a beer.”
Australia Day week is the biggest week for beer sales behind the week leading up to Boxing and Christmas Day, CUB also reports, and sales this year are expected to reach, if not exceed, $300 million in both pack and draught.
Premium and the more contemporary beers are expected to see the biggest sales in NSW, VIC, QLD and WA, while sales of premium, classic and light beer are expected to be among the biggest selling beer categories in the NT and classic beer styles in TAS.
