Star of Bombay adds a super-premium offering into the existing portfolio of Bombay Sapphire, Bombay Sapphire East and Bombay Dry.
It is the first addition to the range of gins to be created at Laverstoke Mill, the new distillery for the company, opened in October 2014.
Star of Bombay has a bottling strength of 47.5% ABV as opposed to 40% ABV, and sees the addition of two new globally sourced botanicals, bergamot orange peel and ambrette seed.
Master of Botanicals for Bombay Sapphire, Ivano Tonutti comments, “The idea with Star of Bombay was to create a gin with an increased perception of the Bombay top-note aromatics.”
In addition to the added botanicals, Star of Bombay is produced through a slowed rate of the Vapour Infusion distillation process.
“The single batch distillation method designed around Star of Bombay is very much a craft process," Nik Fordham, Master Distiller for the brand explains.
“It requires more hands-on control and monitoring to create a gin of extraordinary complexity. The result is an exceptional smoothness and supple character, making it feel more like an aged spirit in the mouth, so much so that it can be drunk neat over ice, which is an amazing surprise that gin can be drunk and enjoyed this way.”
Star of Bombay is distributed by Bacardi-Lion Australia and has a RRP of $69.99.
