BoozeBud has acquired the assets of the established online wine retailer Get Wines Direct group. Both online retailers will continue to operate as separate consumer facing businesses.
Boozebud says that the Get Wines Direct acquisition creates a merged business with over 200,000 active customers, accelerating BoozeBud’s ambitions to be the top online liquor retailer in Australia.
Alex Gale, CEO & Co-Founder of BoozeBud said, “Get Wines Direct has an exceptional team that has built a business with a well established customer base and a broad set of retail capabilities. BoozeBud will benefit from bringing Get Wines Direct knowledge and experience into its business, and Get Wines will benefit from BoozeBud’s digital, marketing, and operational strengths."
Head of Get Wines Direct John Harris said the compatibility between the two organisations makes the merger ideal.
"Get Wines Direct have been looking to align with another like-minded online retailer to form one of the country's largest online liquor retailers. BoozeBud was selected due to their like-minded values and ambitions to grow at a rapid rate and become a significant disruptive force in the liquor space. Our combined strengths provide the best
level of synergies to ensure we are successful in these ambitions," said Mr Harris.
After 20 years of business, Get Wines Direct says that is one of Australia’s largest, most profitable and trusted online wine retailers with a loyal customer base.
BoozeBud and Get Wines Direct will continue to operate as separate consumer facing businesses,
with both management teams and employee structures remaining unchanged.
Asahi Beverages sold the business back to its founders in late 2020.
At the time Boozebud Founder Andy Williamson said: “We’re delighted to own Boozebud once again. Over the last two and a half years the business has grown more than six times and is now the leading pure-play online alcohol retailer in the country."
Boozebud intends to pursue more acquisitions going forward.
