Champagne Bollinger has released the 2015 vintage of both La Grande Année and La Grande Année Rosé.
According to Cellar Master Denis Bunner, “2015 expresses more of the soul of a Bollinger millésimé than any other year.”
La Grande Année 2015 is a blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay heralding from 11 Crus, around ⅘ of which being Grand Crus. Sourced from the same 11 Crus, The La Grande Année Rosé 2015 is 62% Pinot Noir, including 5% red wine from La Côte aux Enfants.
Most of the Pinot Noir used in Bollinger’s La Grande Année wines is sourced from Verzenay, Aÿ and Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, with most of the Chardonnay being sourced from Chouilly and Avize. Both have a low dosage of 7g/l and 8g/l respectively.
Denis Bunner describes the 2015 La Grande Année collection as “more opulent, more powerful, it exalts Pinot Noir. Uplifted by maturation in wooden casks, this champagne reveals the characteristics of an exceptional year.”
Part of Bollinger’s house style is derived from its decision to vinify in barrel, allowing micro-oxygenation which develops complexity and increases ageability.
“We harvest, we make the wine, and then we wait seven long years. Then it is out of our hands. We relinquish our control and, today, give in to discovery,” said Bunner.
“The taste is well-rooted, earthy, powerful, and concentrated. You can taste the sunshine, which is enhanced by the wood.”
Bollinger La Grande Année 2015 and Bollinger La Grande Année Rosé 2015 are available now in select retailers nationwide at $310 and $420 per bottle respectively.
