Diageo Reserve World Class named Charlie Ainsbury from Sydney's This Must Be The Place, winner of the 2016 Australian finals on Sunday night.

Ainsbury, who also won the competition in 2014 and came fifth at the global finals, will fly to Miami in September to represent Australia for the second time at the Global Diageo Reserve World Class Competition.

"I am proud, humbled and honoured to be representing Australia on the global stage once again. Having experience in the global finals under my belt will hopefully prove to be an advantage but I can tell you the nerves will never settle. I am driven, passionate and determined to bring the title back home to Australia,” said Ainsbury.

24 finalists were left to compete in the last two days of the competition this year. Each was challenged across four cocktail challenges, which included Bottled Cocktails, Against the Clock, Culinary Cocktail Champions and Ketel One Craft.

Each challenge was hosted and judged by a panel of local and international experts. The panel included award-winning London bar owner, Ryan Chetiyawardana; 11th generation family member of Nolet Distillers at Ketel One Vodka, Bob Nolet; Head Chef and owner of Mister Jennings, Ryan Flaherty; and 2012 World Class Global Champion and bar owner, Tim Philips.

“I’ve been incredibly impressed and inspired by the depth of bartending talent in Australia. Quite simply – their knowledge, creativity and cocktails have been World Class,” Chetiyawardana said.

Good luck to Charlie in the global stages!
