Last week, Corryton Burge unveiled its debut sparkling wine collection, a range of three wines that fulfil three distinct subcategories. This includes non-vintage and vintage sparkling wines and a sparkling red.
According to Trent Burge, “sparkling wine has always been synonymous with celebration in the Burge family. Whether it’s a wedding, birth, graduation, or anniversary – a bottle of sparkling is the perfect pairing to capture the essence of that moment.”
Trent Co-Founded Corryton Burge in 2020 along with sister, Amelia Burge.
“The Barossa Valley and Burge family are two integral pieces of the South Australian wine story and we’re so proud to be showcasing them to a new generation of wine lovers through Corryton Burge,” said Amelia.
“We’re only just getting started sharing a new side of our family’s winemaking legacy and we hope Corryton Burge is the epitome of the joy and passion we feel for wine.”
First in the collection, the Corryton Burge NV Sparkling Pinot Noir Chardonnay was tank fermented prior to an extended maturation on lees. Corryton Burge describes the wine as displaying aromas of fresh strawberries and shortbread and a palate of delicate brioche and crisp, natural acidity.
Next in the range is the 2019 Martha Mae Tasmanian Sparkling Pinot Noir Chardonnay which was named after the Burge family’s great-grandmother. According to Corryton Burge, the sparkling is crafted from a stellar vintage in Tasmania, resulting in aromas of wild florals and fresh beach spray with hints of almond pastry and vanilla cream. The vintage sparkling was aged for three years on lees prior to bottling and has an ageing capacity of up to 10 years.
The final wine in the range, the NV Sparkling Red, has been crafted from Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, and Grenache that was aged in small old oak barrels prior to secondary fermentation fermentation in bottle and maturation on lees. According to the wine producer, expect aromas of dark berries with baking spices, toasted oak, and hints of sweet vanilla. On the palate, it’s dark berries with dark chocolate and espresso.
Both forming part of Corryton Burge’s Kith Collection, NV Sparkling Pinot Noir Chardonnay and NV Sparkling Red both retail at $28 per bottle. The 2019 Martha Mae Tasmanian Sparkling Pinot Noir Chardonnay carries an RRP of $45 and forms part of the Kin Collection.
All three wines are available to trade via ALM nationwide, along with via Verasion Wines in NSE and The Wine Agent in Victoria.
