For the third consecutive year, Dan Murphy's supported National GIVIT Day during a particularly difficult holiday season for Australia, with living expenses on the increase and interest rates on the rise.
GIVIT is a not-for-profit donation platform allowing people to support those in need through 4,500 charities and support organisation partners across Australia.
Last weekend, the major liquor retailer hosted charity events at its stores Australia-wide, with all donations going to those facing economic and social hardship this festive season.
Dan Murphy’s celebrated its ongoing partnership with GIVIT through a nationwide initiative that included community barbecues, gift-wrapping stations, competitions, and gold coin donations at over 270 stores.
Dan Murphy’s Managing Director, Agnieszka Pfeiffer-Smith, said, “We saw remarkable generosity at our stores in support of National GIVIT Day, and to have the Better Beer team lend a hand to encourage donations was a fantastic outcome. Our partnership with GIVIT serves to make a positive impact on local communities in need of support and make this festive season brighter for everyone.
Over the weekend, Dan Murphy’s stores raised $121,052, doubling the results from 2022, with one hundred per cent of funds going directly to the GIVIT ‘Families in Need this Christmas’ appeal. Dan Murphy’s donated $100,000.
Caroline Odgers from GIVIT said this would go a long way, particularly as the demand for assistance has increased by 84% since the pandemic and several natural disasters over the past two years.
“GIVIT is committed to ensuring everyone has access to the basic comforts that many of us
take for granted. A donation of this size will give so many people in need access to items
including kitchen equipment so a family can enjoy Christmas lunch, or toys for children living in temporary accommodation, which will bring much-needed joy,” she said.
