Domino's Pizza has launched a second attempt to secure a liquor licence in Queensland.
The pizza chain withdrew a liquor licensing application in 2013 after police and community groups claimed alcohol delivery would encourage binge drinking.
In September 2016, its rival Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar started offering home-delivered pizza with beer, wine or cider at some of its outlets in Melbourne.
Domino's wants to sell alcohol to customers who order gourmet pizzas at a new concept store in Brisbane's Queen Street.
The store features a large in-house dining area with an kitchen set-up that allows customers to choose their toppings and watch their pizza made from hand-stretched dough and gourmet ingredients.
If the company's licence application is successful, alcohol will be on the menu within the next few months, supplied by Brisbane’s Newstead Brewing Co.
Domino’s Australia and New Zealand chief executive Nick Knight said the company was keen to roll out further stores following the same concept.
“It’s about having the right store type for the right location, each aspect of this new store is different, from the fit out, to the staff uniforms,” he told The Courier Mail.
“It has a restaurant feel, with relaxed music, and allows customers to enjoy a contemporary casual dining atmosphere while devouring delicious flavours from a new menu.”
Knight said the company is planning to open 31 new stores in Australia in the next three months, which equates to almost three a week.
