DrinkWise, NSW Police and the NRL have run a campaign throughout the State of Origin series reminding the community to always respect and always DrinkWise, enlisting the support of some of the game's best known names to deliver the message.

The campaign emphasises the importance of moderating alcohol consumption and always being respectful towards others.

NSW Blues stars Cameron Murray (South Sydney Rabbitohs Captain) and Kirra Dibb (Newcastle Knights), and QLD Maroons greats Felise Kaufusi (Melbourne Storm) and Tarryn Aiken (Brisbane Broncos) have recorded powerful messages to support the campaign.

Rabbitohs Captain, Cameron Murray, who is keen to play in the series after surgery, said the Always respect, always DrinkWise message is something he’s passionate to support.

“Making sure that fans enjoy and have the best and safest experience of our game is of utmost priority to the NRL and all the players,” said Mr Murray.

“This is an important initiative to remind fans to take care of one another wherever they’re choosing to watch the game, and if choosing to drink alcohol, to do so responsibly."

NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Leanne McCusker says, “The Always respect, always DrinkWise message is really important to educate the wider community about being respectful to those they live with and the wider community at all times.

“We know how passionate sporting fans are in this state, and we want them to celebrate, however it isn’t an excuse for violence. Wherever you’re watching, be responsible, look out for one another, and if you’re seeing or experiencing anything untoward, please contact the police”.

DrinkWise CEO Simon Strahan added: “DrinkWise is pleased to partner with NSW Police and the NRL for the Always respect, always DrinkWise campaign."

“We want to remind those who are choosing to have a drink while watching the State of Origin series this year to consume responsibly and enjoy all the great moments that Origin has to offer."

Andrew Abdo, CEO of the NRL added, “This DrinkWise initiative is a timely reminder for everyone to enjoy and embrace the State of Origin series, a captivating rivalry that also warrants respect. Respect for players, match officials and all fans of the game.”

The Always respect, always DrinkWise messaging has been promoted throughout the State of Origin series.
