Endeavour Group has announced that Mario Volpe, Managing Director of Hotels at the Group, has passed away as a result of an ongoing health condition.

“It is with great sadness that the Board and Management of Endeavour Group Limited (ASX:EDV) regret to advise that Mario Volpe, Managing Director, Hotels has passed away following along illness,” read the ASX post.

“We extend our deepest condolences to Mario’s wife Jacqui, his family, friends and loved ones.”

Volpe, who first worked within the ALH network in the 1980s when living in Perth, became Managing Director in February 2022 following experience in senior strategy roles at ALH and CUB in Melbourne and as Commercial and Operations Manager of Coles’ Hotel business in Brisbane. He rejoined Endeavour Group’s hotel sector in 2016 as the Commercial Manager for ALH, where he drove significant change and growth and helped drive ALH’s digital and technology transformation agenda.

Upon appointing Volpe as Managing Director of Hotels, Endeavour Group’s CEO Steve Donohue described him as “passionate about creating great hotel experience by empowering his team to be ambitious, innovative and above all, by taking our responsibilities as hoteliers seriously” and as someone who “embodies the consciousness of our ‘imprint’ and is committed to our purpose, values and ways of working, underpinning our most important asset – our culture.”

The ASX post, published on Wednesday, reflects on the strong legacy left behind at ALH Group by Volpe.

“He was a true custodian of our pubs, bringing to life their unique history and stories, and a kind and authentic leader,” read the announcement.

“The imprint Mario left on this business, our people and the industry is enduring. He will be fondly remembered and missed by us all.”

The role of Managing Director of Hotels will be continued by Paul Walton, as initially advised in June 2023. Endeavour Group is expected to provide a further update on the role in the near future.
