After more than 30 years in the retail industry, Michael 'MJ' James has announced he'll retire from his role at Endeavour Group this September.
Starting his career at his local supermarket in his childhood home of Lismore, James went on to hold senior operational roles at various supermarkets before joining BWS as Managing Director in 2012.
He then ran Woolworths Metro and Petrol, was the Director of Woolworths Supermarkets and Chief Operations Officer at Big W. In 2018 he returned to the Endeavour Group as Director of Dan Murphy's and eventually Director of Operations for the Group in 2020.
Steven Donohue, CEO and Managing Director of Endeavour Group, said James' contribution to the business was significant, and he would be missed by all.
"MJ has achieved a lot during his time with Endeavour, in particular helping us become a more effective and efficient business. He's provided invaluable support to team members throughout the Group, especially in improving customer experience today and into the future.
He has made an enormous contribution in establishing Endeavour as a standalone business, and I wish him all the very best for his retirement," said Donohue.
James said that upon reflection, he'd had an enjoyable career in retail and is looking forward to more good times travelling the world in his retirement.
"I have had a very fortunate career in retail, the good times and the tough times and finding the 'knack' to balance the outcomes. I have enjoyed all the teams I've worked with, and locations I've lived in and visited across the country.
"I'm really looking forward to enjoying the coastal lifestyle, surfing, golfing and being able to visit the gym with no time restraints, so I can be fit to travel the world," he said.
