In a unique and first of its kind collaboration, Tequila Herradura has given Byblos and Blackbird, together with 11 of Australia’s top bars, the opportunity to purchase their own barrel of Double Barrel Reposado Tequila; an opportunity usually only befitted to larger venues.
Named the ‘Australian Casa Select’, the Double Barrel Reposado Tequila – barrel number 787, is exclusive to the participating venues, which will each be serving the expression in their own unique signature serve when the barrel arrives in Australia later this year.
In addition, Brown-Forman (distributor and owner of Herradura) is also offering each of these bars from QLD, NSW, VIC, ACT, SA, WA and NT the opportunity to visit Casa Herradura and experience the historic site first-hand.
Each venue was presented with an individual target when they met with Herradura Master Taster and Global Brand Ambassador, Ruben Aceves, to purchase the barrel in April and are now engaged in a 12-week incentive program, in which each venue must come up with new ways for their customers to try Tequila Herradura.
The venues that meet their individual target in the coming weeks, will receive a place on the trip to Casa Herradura, while the number one performing venue will also receive the actual oak barrel that was used in the secondary ageing process of the Double Barrel Reposado Tequila. All proceeds raised from the program are being invested back into hosting the group in Mexico in July.
The only venue representing Brisbane, Byblos and Blackbird is a bar and restaurant duo, offering customers two unique and world-class experiences. The restaurant is headed by Executive Chef, Jake Nicolson, who describes his menu at Blackbird as “Heritage Australian with a focus on sustainability, rare breeds and whole beast cookery” – in short, a premium Australian barbeque banquet. The restaurant menu is paired with a specially curated wine list, each wine hand-selected by the group’s sommelier, Penny Grand.
The venue’s bar offers an extensive premium spirit and cocktail list, and for good value. The bartenders are very experienced and well trained in product knowledge and cocktails; headed by Group Bar Manager, Aaron Clark, in-house training is held weekly, making sure that each of Byblos and Blackbird’s patrons receive a unique and outstanding customer experience.
Aaron recently spoke with drinks bulletin, explaining what it means to Byblos and Blackbird to be one of very few to select and purchase their own barrel of Herradura “Double Barrel” Reposado Tequila and how his venue will be serving its customers Herradura tequila over the coming weeks to reach that all important target.
drinks bulletin: What does it mean to you to be one of very few bars to be able to select and purchase your own unique barrel of Herradura “Double Barrel” Reposado tequila?
Aaron Clark: It means a lot for our company. For both Byblos and Blackbird to get the opportunity to be part of such a select program and offer a unique experience for our clientele and staff. We like to be ahead of the game in terms of our offering and like to give people something new and exciting.
DB: What is it about the Herradura brand and history that resonates with you?
AC: I have worked with the brand for a long time and the premium quality of the liquid represents exactly what our company ethos stands for. We are a family owned business with great partnerships and relationships; we hold Herradura now as part of the family.
DB: How will you be introducing your customers to Herradura over the next 12 weeks?
AC: We are holding a training session on Herradura with our Brand Ambassador Grant Shearon. We are highlighting Reposado as our first pour tequila over the next 12 weeks and doing signature classic cocktails such as Palomas’ and Tommy’s Margaritas.
DB: How will you be serving the ‘Australian Casa Select’ – Barrel 787 at Byblos and Blackbird it arrives?
AC: We will be offering a tequila flight with the Herradura range highlighting the flavour profiles of each tequila. I will be hosting an in-house cocktail competition with the aim of the competition to highlight the profile of the barrel 787, with the winning cocktails to be presented on each menu of Byblos and Blackbird.
