First Ridge Wines has opened its unique, architecturally-designed cellar door, made from two intersecting shipping containers. The simple, open-plan area invites visitors to taste wines while enjoying breath-taking views of the mountain, vineyard and gully ridge.
First Ridge Wines is a collaboration between owners John and Helen Nicholas and veteran viticulturist and General Manager Colin Millot. The vineyard has been dedicated to growing and producing the finest Italian varietals since its establishment over 18 years ago, with an aim to create wines that excite the senses and evoke conversation.
John Nicholas said their passion for wines had translated into the design of the new cellar door.
“It’s a minimalist modern design with the building being subservient to the vineyard, honest direct and unobtrusive. The same honesty which is reflected in our wines,” said Nicholas.
The cellar door is located in Mudgee, NSW, providing a boost to the town’s tourism as a welcome addition to the popular Mudgee Wine Trail. The First Ridge cellar door is located on the corner of Burrundulla Road and Castlereigh Highway, open seven days a week.
