Foley Family Wines has appointed Master of Wine, Alastair Maling, as its new Chief Group Winemaker/Head of Viticulture.

Based in New Zealand, Mr. Maling was also previously head of winemaking at Villa Maria. Now based at Foley Wines, he will oversee winemaking and viticulture for Foley’s wineries including Te Kairanga and Martinborough Vineyards, as well as Vavasour, Goldwater and Grove Mill.

Foley Family Wines NZ CEO, Mark Turnbull, says Alastair will also work closely with the company’s executive, sales and marketing teams to help lead Foley Wines into its next stage of growth.

“Over the past few years, Foley Family Wines has invested heavily in its wineries, vineyards, bottling and most recently warehousing, providing a strong foundation for future growth”, Mr. Turnbull said. “Alastair brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience, not just of viticulture and winemaking but from a sales and marketing and commercial and strategic perspective.”

“His addition to the senior management team will help take the business to the next level, providing the capabilities we need to move it forward.”

Mr. Maling will begin his new role at the beginning of July and says he is excited about the opportunity to work across a number of brands and with a “high calibre team of winemakers”.
