A gadget called D-Vine aims to do for wine what Nespresso did for coffee.

Created by a French start-up called 10-Vins, the machine resembles as Nespresso coffee maker, however you place glass tubes of wine instead of coffee pods in it.

Why? To deliver a glass of wine at home that rivals one a sommelier would pour in a top-class restaurant.

The D-Vine takes a vial of wine, detects the style, adjusts the temperatures, aerates it and pours it through the machine exactly as the vineyard recommends. The process takes around one minute to deliver the perfect glass.

A touch screen lets you tell the machine what you are eating and it will recommend a wine based on what you have available in your collection. While you are waiting for it to prepare your glass you can watch a video presentation on the wine you are about to drink.

You can also manage your wine cellar with the machine, which uses artificial intelligence to recommend wine orders based on your consumption and your favourite wines.

“We sold more than 600 units in 2016, and we wanted to take it to the next level,” said Thibaut Jarrousse, CEO of 10-Vins, in a statement. “We want to bring a complete wine experience and make users’ lives easier with a personal wine assistant.”

The D-Vine will soon be available in hotels and for consumers in some cities in the US, and the company plans to open a wine lounge bar in California by the end of 2017. The unit sells in France for 819 euros and the US for $840.

The company plans to expand to Australia and New Zealand soon.
