Next month, Galway Vintage will release a limited edition 100 per cent Barossa malbec to compliment its time-honored Barossa shiraz.

In a bid to turn around Yalumba’s fortunes, Galway Vintage was released by Wyndham Hill Smith in 1943.

In 2012, Wyndham’s son, Robert Hill-Smith saw the potential of a malbec within the Australian market.

Robert said: “Galway Vintage is as much a part of the Yalumba stable as The Signature – it’s been the Australian red wine drinkers’ staple since 1943.

“Yalumba Galway Vintage started as claret and remains attached to that generic definition as a fuller bodied red wine with mid-palate richness, medium tannin structure and accessibility, with medium term cellaring rewards.”

Available from Monday 1 June, Yalumba Galway Vintage Malbec 2012 was sourced from Barossa vineyards.

In conjunction with the launch, the Yalumba Galway Vintage Shiraz has received a new label celebrating both history and innovation and the latest vintage, 2013, is available now.

Yalumba Galway Vintage wines are available via the Yalumba Wine Room (08 8561 3200) and are distributed nationally by Samuel Smith & Son (08 8112 4212).
