Chef de Cave Didier Mariotti hosted the tasting, where the wines were previewed for the first time in Australia.
Each chosen by Mariotti to present one aspect of the vintage particularly well, the decision to re-release small quantities from three vintages came in an effort to showcase the consistency and ageing potential of Mumm vintage Champagnes.
Each magnum has been given a light dosage of just 4g/l to let the true characteristics of the wine shine through.
“At Mumm we are lucky to be able to source pinot noir grapes from some of the best Grand Cru vineyards across Champagne, thanks largely to our incredible vineyard holding established by the visionary René Lalou nearly 100 years ago. The quality, power and richness of fruit of these pinot noirs are the key to the ageing potential of our vintage wines,” comments Mariotti.
The new Collection du Chef de Caves will enable the House to share some of its
rarer mature vintages with Champagne connoisseurs across the world.
Each magnum within the initial release will carry a bespoke label featuring the date of disgorgement and personally signed by Mariotti.
The new offering Collection du Chef de Caves is now available in magnum nationally from selected venues.
In total, the entire House of Mumm Collection du Chef de Caves includes magnums of the best vintages from the last 30 years that have been kept in perfect conditions in the cellars at Mumm in Reims, France.
