WA distillery Giniversity's Southern Ocean Navy Strength Gin has won Best in Category and Double Gold in the International Navy Gin category at the American Distillers Institute Awards.
This latest accolade follows a win at the Australian Distilled Spirits Awards for Best Navy Gin in Australia last year.
Cameron Syme, Founder and Master Distiller at Great Southern Distilling Company, said the back-to-back awards are a testament to the quality and craftsmanship of the gin.
"We are thrilled to receive these prestigious awards for Giniversity Southern Ocean Gin. Our team's dedication to creating a unique and high-quality gin has paid off, and we are honoured to be recognised by such respected organisations in the industry," he said.
The distinctive flavours of the Giniversity Southern Ocean Gin is made with a blend of botanicals including juniper, coriander, angelica root, and fresh citrus, inspired by the rugged coastline of Western Australia's Southern Ocean.
Historically, navy strength spirits were distilled at a higher strength to ensure they were flammable should they come into contact with gunpowder on a boat. Today the only purpose of bottling gin navy strength (classified as anything over 57.15 per cent alcohol) is to achieve a bold flavour profile.
Giniversity is one of Australia's awarded gin brands, boasting innovative and unique creations styles such as the Botanical, Australian Native, Barrel Aged, Whisky Cask Aged, Indian Ocean, Hemp and Black Truffle Gins. Many are first of their kind in Australia.
Part of Margaret River Distilling Company established in 2005, Giniversity is one of the core brands under Cameron Syme's One Family, Three Distilleries banner, along with sister companies Limeburners Single Malt Whisky, Tiger Snake Whiskey and Dugite Whiskey.
